We sit down with founder of Casey's Krunch, Casey Kehoe!
US: Tell us about where the inspiration for Casey's Krunch came from.
Casey: The inspiration came kind of by mistake when I started to have crazy digestions problems about 8 years ago when I was living in Chicago. After many doctor's visits and medical exams, I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy, a very foreign concept to me at the time. I took it upon myself to take control of my “new” eating lifestyle and began to re-create all of the delicious foods I once was able to enjoy. From all the home baking and cooking, the one product that I found to be the most versatile and convenient for my busy and healthy lifestyle was GRANOLA! Whether it be breakfast with berries, a snack in between work meetings, my saving grace on long plane rides, a post work out snack or even a late night treat on the couch- granola was my go to food! However, what was not a mistake is my passion for baking. I just love being in the kitchen so it was a natural fit that I turned a life altering event into my passion and business.
US: What was your largest obstacle and how did you overcome that when getting Casey's Krunch off the ground?
Casey: TIME and it still is my biggest obstacle. I was never one to sit still and relax and I do not see myself doing that anytime soon but it is challenge to balance my corporate job, Casey's Krunch, my position on a Junior Board, teaching boxing-bootcamp classes twice a week, catching up with friends and still finding quality time with my husband, Tom. But one thing that has worked for me is to have a schedule- I try to put everything on the calendar so that I know where I need to dedicate my time. I even recently put a calendar date for Tom and I to hang our new curtains! It just really helps me be aware and committed to where I spend my time.
US: As a female entrepreneur, what advice would you give other women with multiple "side hustles" or those wanting to get their own businesses off the ground?
Casey: Two things: One-be patient!! As entrepreneurs we know we are ambitious women and want things to happen fast but sometimes that just isn't the case. If things don't move as fast as you want /hoped for- don't give up! Keep on pushing and stay focused so that you do stay on track towards each and every goal. Two- Be strategic and use all the resources you have at your fingertips! No one is an expert in every area of life or business so leverage those around you that can help you in areas that you might not be that golden star!
US: What's your go-to workout these days?
Casey: I wouldn't say I have an absolute go to work out because I like to change things up everyday. I like to have a healthy balance of cardio, weight training and HITT. I have tried Pilate's and Barre but those just are not for me as I need to get my heart rate pumping and get a good sweat in to feel good about my workout. And maybe I am a bit biased to boxing because my husband, Tom, and I teach a boxing bootcamp class twice a week to members at the New York Athletic Club but boxing really is such an amazing workout- 5 minutes in the ring with him and I am out of breathe! Plus it is fun to get some aggression out every once in awhile!
US: Name one thing that inspires you!
Casey: Many things inspire me but if I had to pick one thing, I would say my husband, Tom. What I have learned from being married is that more than ever, I want the best version of myself. As hard of an adjustment as it has been, its not all about me anymore! In order for me to be the best wife, life partner and friend to Tom, I need to ensure that I am doing everything I can to make myself happy so that in return I can make him happy! I want to make him proud to call Casey Kathryn Kehoe his wife and so far I think I have done a pretty good job!
