Meagan Bernatchez is a fellow in the Mama Hope's Global Advocate Program, and she is raising $20,000 for crucial maternal health care being done by Shanti Uganda, her partner organization. In this endeavor, 100% of the funds raised will go to supporting holistic pre- and postnatal care for women in Uganda, as well as continue to run the Teen Girls Health Workshop and the Community Garden and Nutrition Workshop. 

She firmly believes that all women deserve access to safe, well-informed, respectful, compassionate health care before, during and after the birthing process and throughout their lifespan, and that communities working together for a common goal create safe spaces for healing and growth. SWUE: Me Too

Dozens of survivors spoke up against Harvey Weinstein and this week women took to their keyboards with the hashtag #metoo to begin to put into words the amount of sexual assault women are forced to face on a daily basis. While this isn't a new narrative, it is clear that women are ready to talk about & actively fight against this abuse. On November 15th, Uplift Studios will be hosting the next of our Strong Women Uplift Each Other series, focused on Women & Violence. We know that talking about assault and abuse sometimes feels impossible, but our lives and our loved one's lives literally depend on it. 

The night will be led by Uplift's Philanthropy Coordinator, Cassie Gilling, moderated by Laurice Adams. Special guest Zoe Lepage from Exhale to Inhale.

Laurice Adams is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and received her Master’s Degree from New York University in drama therapy. She completed post-graduate training at the Institute for Developmental Transformations where she eventually served as Associate Training Director for three years. Laurice worked at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City as a psychotherapist in their college-counseling center and prior to that, for over 9 years, worked at Bellevue Hospital Center in the department of psychiatry. After the birth of her daughter, she became an accredited La Leache League Leader. Laurice maintains a private psychotherapy practice in New York City in the Madison Park area where she works with adults, adolescents, and new parents.


Born with boundless energy, Zoë spent most of her early life in motion - running
between the sports field and the ballet studio. During a gap year before college, she
enrolled in a YogaWorks teacher training and was enchanted by the philosophy and
physicality of the practice. Yoga was more than just stretching and strengthening the
body; it was a window to healing the mind. During Zoë's time as a psychology major at Barnard College, she taught weekly yoga classes to her peers and found meaning in the connection she experienced with her students. During her senior year, Zoë set wheels in motion to create Exhale to Inhale, a non-profit organization that brings trauma-informed yoga to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Upon graduation, Zoë joined a boutique management consulting firm but after 2.5 years she decided to leave the corporate world behind and focus on Exhale to Inhale. Zoë is also at teacher at The Class by Taryn Toomey.

All proceeds will go towards Exhale to Inhale, a not-for-profit organization that brings trauma-informed yoga to survivors of violence.

It's that time of the year again…

Join us on our annual hike to enjoy beautiful views, the crisp fall fresh air, + a mix into your workout schedule. 

We are taking the metro-north up to Cold Spring, NY where we will hike on an intermediate level trail up Bear Mountain. After, we will head to a local restaurant that sits right on the railroad tracks to wine + dine, of course!

No hiking experience? No worries! Every level is welcomed.

Hiking boots are optional. Wear a couple of layers, as the day usually starts off chilly + gets warmer.

“Ladies Night In” is a new series premiering at Uplift this November. We all have planned a Ladies Night Out, but wine-not stay in and get woke by learning about tasty food and wine pairings?! We all know the party always congregates to the kitchen, so not only will we be sipping on delicious wine, but no longer biting our tongues on issues that we’ve chewed on for so long.  

JOIN US November 2nd, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. with Sommelier and fellow Uplifting babe, Anna Vega. She will take us through a pocket-friendly food and wine pairing all while sharing her story on navigating between one male-dominating career to the next. From soldier, to finance fiend, and now sommelier,  Anna tells us about her gravitation towards these male-dominated spaces and why women should join her in fearlessly claiming more space for women.

Strong Women Uplift Each Other Series: Women's Illness

On Wednesday October 18, 6:30 pm, our SWUE series will focus on Women's Illness. This powerful evening will begin with a screening of a 5 minute "pilot" episode of a new web series produced by our own trainer and cancer survivor Vera Trifunovich: "Bare Breasted Against Breast Cancer." Then our friend, Dr. Cecilia Dintino, will lead an open discussion for all our guests, speaking frankly about coping with serious female illnesses. If you have battled a female cancer, faced a critical health crisis, cared for a loved one, or just want to support your sisters please join us. You will be free to share you story or to simply listen. We believe that strength and healing is found in community and shared experience, and that Strong Women Uplift Each Other. 

"Bare-Breasted Against Breast Cancer" is a web-based video support forum that
provides authentic, anecdotal, firsthand information for breast cancer patients, their families, and their caregivers.
Our motto? “Let’s get breast cancer off our Chests."

*Cecilia Dintino, PsyD, is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at Columbia University Medical Center and a faculty member at New York University’s graduate program in Drama Therapy.  She is the co-founder of Drama Lab, NYC, a theatre and improvisation company, writes for the Huffington Post and is a co-founder of Twisting the Plot: Solutions for Women over 50, a program designed to help women reenergize and repurpose their lives.

    In this workshop, Sarah will cover the importance of networking and surrounding yourself with the right people, balance (in both work and life!), self-care, recognizing, articulating, and creating your personal brand, and what we can gain from reviews in the work place. She will also demonstrate  how to arm ourselves to have the courageous conversations, discuss the difference between who people perceive you to be versus who you are, the value of nonverbal communication in the workplace, plus dig down deep into the mechanics of business etiquette, resume-building (and the importance of always having your resume updated), social media (highlighting LinkedIn), and key pointers for a successful interview.

  • 2:15 PM - 3:15 PM: WORKOUT & WORKSHOP: STRONG IS BEAUTIFUL 
    Speaker: Chelsea Aguiar

    Founder of AthayaFitness, Chelsea will teach a 30-minute full-body mobility and strength class that will incorporate movements via bodyweight, sliders, and resistance. This class will focus on mobilizing and activating your spine, joints, and muscles that will combine compound movements to not only strengthen but will provide the stability and mobilization to increase your durability through and after the workout. After class, Chelsea will sit down and speak with us about her career shift from long time dancer to personal trainer, where her passion for fitness was born, which later cultivated itself into a realm for female empowerment through strength. (sound familiar, Uplift-ers?!). #StrongIsBeautiful is a movement Chelsea created to bring women of diverse fitness backgrounds, together to advocate that strength comes in all forms and sizes.     We know the names of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg. But what about the female entrepreneurs? What’s their story? This amazing film will bring it  to us right at Uplift. From brand new startups to million dollar industries, it’s time we stop telling girls they can be anything they want to be and show them what it means to be a leader.

    Dream, Girl creator Erin Bagwell will be on hand to screen the film and answer all of our questions about art, filmmaking, and entrepreneurship.

Strong Women Uplift Each Other Series: Building Pillars of Confidence

Join us for some wine and speak upon how confidence is life’s enabler. It is the quality that turns thoughts into action. It gives us the sense that we can achieve what we set out to do. This is a characteristic that is incredibly potent, essential, and unfortunately for women, appears at an alarmingly short supply. Perhaps it is time we stop putting our heads down and stop playing by the rules. Let’s start by shaking our comfort zones and speak about how we can cultivate and foster more it in our personal, financial, and emotional relationships.

Fit and Fierce After 50 Series

Many of our clients have experienced our wonderful personal training or small group training at Uplift--working with our amazing clients in an intimate and personalized setting is one of the things we love most about our cozy studio.

Led by our very own Vera, we're turning our eye to the fantastic women over the age of fifty in our midst who want to continue to be fit and strong for years to come.
What does this mean? These small group training sessions are designed with an understanding of the strengths and challenges faced by women over fifty. The sessions will tackle slowing metabolisms and bone density loss while being mindful of overuse injuries, surgeries, and yes, hot flashes. Be ready to work hard, have fun and be fit and fierce with women your own age.

The details:

Sessions will run from Wednesday, March 1st through Wednesday, March 29th at 5:30 p.m. 
 
Cost includes 5 small group training sessions, as well as a group outing.
